A global retail equipment supplier rolled out 1,200 POS stations across 80+ European grocery chains, from hypermarkets to neighborhood stores. The non-negotiable requirement was a no-slip worktop: a standard 500ml water bottle placed on it must stay put while cashiers scan and type.
That called for flawless flatness, food-safe seams, brand-matched off-white finish, and precisely cut openings for card readers, receipt printers and touchscreens.

The precision demands were unusually granular:
Each 1200x800mm worktop was laser-cut from a single sheet – no joined panels – then passed through a precision leveler to remove rolling stress and CMM verification before bending. Frame mounting points were held to +/-0.03mm, and the frame top surface calibrated to 0.05mm flatness.
Laser-welded seams were robotically ground to a 0.03mm gap to meet EN 1672-2 without warping, while robotic powder coating at 60+/-2um with controlled oven cooling kept Delta-E under 1. Every station passed a spirit-level check and an actual bottle-stability test before shipment.
All 1,200 stations met the 0.5mm/m levelness, 0.03mm gap and +/-0.05mm device-fit targets, with a 100% compliance rate.
Six months in the field logged zero bottle slides, zero worktop corrosion and zero brand color mismatches. The supplier returned in 2025 for another 1,800 units.
